What to expect during treatment

At your first consultation, you will be asked about your current medical symptoms, medical history, diet and digestive system, sleeping patterns and emotional state as well as any treatment you have received so far. Your pulses will be taken and your tongue examined.

I will be looking to discern from this detailed questioning and observation, a pattern of disharmony and will then select an appropriate combination of points to needle. Fine, sterile, disposable needles are used and the process should be almost painless. The most common feeling is a slight pinprick and some dullness around the area needled. The needles are left in place for approximately 15-20 minutes. A typical course of treatment is between 5 and 8 sessions and depends on the responsiveness of each individual to the treatment as well as the duration of the condition.

Some techniques I may use alongside acupuncture are:

  • Cupping therapy
  • Electro acupuncture
  • Guasha
  • Moxibustion
  • Ear (auricular) acupuncture
